Dr. James "Jim" Carter
Executive Director and Ecclesiastical Endorser for the
Presbyterian and Reformed Commision on Chaplains and Military Personnel
Dr. James R. “Jim” Carter serves as the Executive Director and Ecclesiastical Endorser for the
Presbyterian and Reformed Commision on Chaplains and Military Personnel (PRCC). A native
of Monroeville, AL, he attended Belhaven College and Reformed Theological Seminary. While
attending seminary, he served as a Chaplain Candidate in the Army Reserves and after
graduation and ordination, entered the Army Chaplain Corps. Chaplain Carter’s degrees include
a BA from Belhaven College, Jackson, MS; a MDIV and MA in Marriage and Family Therapy
from Reformed Theological Seminary, Jackson, MS, and a DMIN from Erskine Theological
Seminary, Due West, SC. Chaplain Carter’s military education includes the U.S. Army Chaplain
Basic Course and Advanced Courses, Combined Arms Service Staff School (CAS3), the
Command and General Staff College, and the Chaplain Lieutenant Colonel Course. Following
his retirement from active duty, he served six years as Senior Pastor of New Presbyterian
Church in South Florida prior to accepting this current call.
Dr. Carter served over 24 years with the Army Chaplaincy reaching the rank of Colonel. He held
numerous military ministry leadership positions and has served in two combat tours. Dr. Carter
is married to the former Terri Ganey of Mullins, SC. They have two married children and two
grandsons. He enjoys sports, tennis, traveling, reading and serving his local community. Jim
and Terri live in Mullins, SC.
